Inclination

The image of running from the inevitable — that’s what comes to mind when I think of truly mastering my own sinful propensities. Question: is it really possible? Or do we just get really good at hiding?

Inclination — I think that’s the key word. And it only ever leans one of two ways.

Toward self. Or toward God — and by extension, toward others.

The mirage — the ghost — is the idea that we can live for others without leaning into God first. When we serve others without serving Him, we serve ourselves. The two have to work in tandem.

Lord, help me pursue the service of others through constant, unwavering service to You. Help me not to be deceived by my own intentions. Search me, God — reveal my wicked ways to me before they reveal themselves. Give me peace and joy in Your presence, and let me share that with others.
